Seeds of Change

Seeds of Change

Years ago when I was still working in health services, I had an elderly (that’s polite, she was 104) woman ask me, “What do you dream of doing? I’m sure being here, wiping my tush is not what you had planned.” I laughed at the time, because she was old and it was quite funny, but also because she was right. I did not plan to wipe other people butts for the duration of my life. I’m not even sure why the wiping of asses didn’t register before I went into health care.

Instead of letting me laugh it off, she got angry and said, “Don’t betray your dreams, or they will betray you! Don’t make light of your future.” Good advice from a great lady.

She passed away a week later and I have thought of that moment many times up until now. Looking back, I recognize that what she was really saying was don’t live a life you’ll regret. Take what you want and make it yours.

I don’t regret working in healthcare. Why? Even if it was a shitty job (yes, pun intended), it was a dream. To make the world a better place. To leave an impact. I may not have made it better for everyone, but I did impact a few. Sometimes changing the world for just one person is all it takes.

Dreams are illustrations… from the book your soul is writing about you.

Marsha Norman

We all have dreams. Dreams to be rich, to be famous, to see the world or experience true love. We dream of having it all figured out, leaving the world a little better when we leave than it was when we found it. We dream of rising to the challenge and becoming who we aspire to be. We believe that we should dream big or not dream at all.

Somewhere along the way, our dreams are muted, diluted and buried under the push and pull of society. The needs we have and the basic foundations of our days blanketing our dreams in doubt, to make them seem unclaimable. We forget about all the hopes we have for the future that we made as children. As we grow, maybe we find that our thoughts were not as perfect as we had first thought. Our dreams seeming non-sensical and superficial. We change them, we adjust them, we borrow them from someone else, leaving just enough leftovers to call them ours. We store them, those little seeds of change. Hoping that one day we can harvest them.

Some dreams are not worthy of realization. I understand that. Some ARE superficial or lack substance. Some are silly or are unachievable. But that doesn’t mean we should stop dreaming. It means we should start dreaming smart. Dreaming with purpose.

But Dreams change. Fate has a way of showing you what you want more

My dreams have changed over the years. Some because I achieved them, like starting a blog, or becoming submissive to Mister K. Being in a power exchange still takes work and I am learning more about myself every day, so this one may not be fully achieved, yet. As for blogging, it’s still young, but I’m excited to see where it goes. I took the jump, sink or sail.

Some dreams changed or were shifted because the original idea was too small, or maybe too big. Like learning a new language. I study Spanish every day, but I have learned that learning a language with all its nuances is much harder than one would think. It’s one thing to read it, another to speak it. I apologise for butchering such beauty.

Some were abandoned because I realized they weren’t my dreams after all, but a manifestation of another’s hopes. Or they were created due to existing situations, that no longer exist. Or they were really just a want and not a dream at all. Whatever the reason they must not have been important enough to chase.

Follow your dreams, they know the way.

Many of my dreams are still just that. Dreams. Mister K and I aspire to own a beautiful mountainside property where we can live independently from the world but invite the world to join us. We hope to host many kink events and give lifestylers a place to be free when staying with us. I hope to create a natural aftercare line using homegrown herbs and botanicals. Mister K, a workshop where he can tinker and build (that man can fix anything). What had started as a retirement dream for myself, has become a united goal. Each day we work a little more to achieve that. We’re getting there.

With infinite amounts of money or time, I’m sure we could create anything which we choose, but it’s hard to create a dream when everything you want is reality. I think that’s the secret to dreams. They are something that you need to work to obtain. Something that makes you have to bleed, sweat and maybe even cry a bit for. That’s what makes success so enjoyable.

So what happens when we reach our dreams? Do we stop dreaming? Do we just go for the ride and let time do its thing? I sure hope not. I hope instead that we find the next dreams waiting with open arms.

Happy Dreaming!

  1. Dreams are a funny thing – as you say they change as the years go.
One thing that really resonated here was that occasionally we borrow dreams – often that is because we take on someones else’s dreams – a new loved one maybe. In my life I have found these often fail but that is fine, they were not yours in the beginning.
What is important is to always have dreams. Thank you for linking up. i am enjoying your blog
