What’s Under the Hood?

This is a product review for the Scandal Lace Sensory Deprivation hood by Caelxotics and is a sponsored post. As such, if you make a purchase, I may receive a small compensation.

I’m always on the lookout for kink wear. You know, hoods, harnesses. Interesting pieces of lingerie, used as part of a scene or worn to feel a teeny bit sexy when the mood inspires. So, you can imagine how delighted I was when Betty’s Toy Box reached out and informed me their already risqué business has a dark side, AKA: Naughty Betty’s.

All about BDSM and taboo themes? I was all game.

I’d been searching for a hood for a while. For play, but also for images for my blog. It can be frustrating always worrying about editing to remain anonymous, so a hood seemed good a compromise. I could use it at themes nights, during scenes, or for images. But I had some specifications. Okay, only 2.

First, I needed to feel like I was hidden

and yet, not suffocating. I can’t wear latex hoods for an extended time because my face sweats and I get irritated within their close confines. Add itching and it’s a recipe for libido disaster. Also, latex is a bit more work that you’d think, requiring cleaning, dry time, and maintenance regularly. No, latex isn’t my thing.

And then there’s leather, but if you’re vegan, that’s not an option. I’m not vegan, but leather seems too masculine for me. Again, that’s my personal preference. To each their own, Add some chaps and a bullwhip to anyone else (besides me) and I’ll likely drool. And not just from my mouth.

Second, I wanted something that was sexy

and yet classy. Feminine not just functional. Sure, it needed to hide my features, but I also required looking good in it. I can act a whore, but a pretty whore.

Vain, I know.

So, when I learned of the Scandal Lace Sensory Deprivation Hood by Calexotics, I was all over it and asked Betty’s if they’d let me try it out for an honest review.

If you’ve gotten this far, they obviously said yes!

Shipping/Packaging

It shipped super-fast (or the postal system is just getting better) and came in a discreet package. Inside the inconspicuous packaging was a box containing minimal plastic.

The manufacturers label and packaging boasted a one-year warranty, a super stretchy, breathable and washable material, but didn’t actually state what the material was. An online search told me it was polyester.

Inside the hood was folded into a tidy square, ensuring it’s small enough to hide inside a lingerie drawer or a pocket, if needed. When laid flat, I realised without knowing what it was, it could be mistaken for an other dainty unmentionable.

Trying it On/Trying it Out

The first thing I noticed is that this hood is super stretchy, just as the packaging said.  Which means it is one size fits most, but also it can handle a bit of tugging, or strain from overzealousness.

That being said, I still smeared my lipstick putting it on, but hey, that’s part of the process and the lipstick was smeared much worse after my testing.

The Senses

Sound

I appreciated that his hood didn’t muffle sound like leather or latex. Great for louder environments or for someone like myself who enjoys some background noise, whether music or porn. I was easily able to hear directions (or a safeword), and didn;t find that I needed to strain to do so.

Feel/Touch

Instantly, I was suprised how well the material sat on my face. Usually I don’t care for my face being touched, especially with tight fitting fabrics, but after a few minutes, it was like wearing nothing at all.

It’s breathable lace shell quickly whisked moisture away from my skin (leaving it where I wanted it), and made for comfortable wear, even for an extended time. Even face down.

I was expecting facial stubble/body hair to stick to the lace, so a heavy round of kissing and a bit of fellatio were in order. While I did hear rasping, I don’t think any “sticking” took place (there were no complaints from the receiving end), and I didn’t notice any pilling caused by friction like I have with other lace materials. So it’s beard friendly (take that however you need).

Sight

Although I was able to see through it almost completely unobstructed (like looking through a chain link fence), I think my features were hidden enough to give a mysterious feel. I still felt veiled and mysterious, and yet elegant. Being able to decipher if I was being approached, etc, was also nice, but I quickly learned this hood can easily pair with a blindfold.

Smell/Taste

Though I wasn’t worried about this sense so much (although, it is important for a holistic sexual experience), I was grateful that breathing through my nose was an option when performing tasks reliant on my mouth.

The mouth hole is large enough that you can easily perform fellatio, be gagged, or kissed. And I was suprised that more of the fabric wasn’t damp from flowing fluids.

As for taste. Yes, I was able to taste EVERYTHING just fine.

Washing

There’s only one way to see if an item will hold up in the wash, and that’s to thoroughly soil it first. With that mission complete, to the wash bin it went.

I didn’t put through the hood in with the delicates, just the ordinary wash (nor did I wash it right away-don’t judge my laundry habits!). As I hang my laundry to dry anyway, it handled the washing machine well, with no shrinkage or color alteration. Once dry on the line (which took all of 5 minutes), it fit as good as new.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think the Scandal Sensory Lace Deprivation Hood by Calexotics is a great accessory to any lingerie drawer, or BDSM toy cabinet. It’s multi-purposed and pretty. What more could a girl want?

My favorite part about this hood is that it is lace meaning it can used as an accessory at the club, or an event, or part of a scene. I find it very feminine and flattering and Mister K said he liked the mystery.

The one thing I didn’t like (there’s always one thing!!!!) was how my hair had to be kept down, or in a low ponytail, which is not a manufacturing design per se. Perhaps the corset version, would be a better for myself, where I could pull my hair through the top to keep it off my neck and provide a more secure handle for all thrusting purposes. Alternatively, a slot for a ponytail would be a good design. Perhaps I’ll alter it for my use.
