A Year in the Life – A Review of 2020

A Year in the Life – A Review of 2020

So many of us started 2020 with the thought, “This is my year.” I was no different. The numbers 2020 seemed to have magical powers, a sign foreshadowing the greatness to come. Then the world watched as Australian bushfires became infernos of unimaginable size, killer bees from Asia threatened the US and Canada, and we were given a very real fear that a third world war was imminent. That was all in the span of a few weeks. By the third month, the world braced for a global pandemic and lockdowns began. No matter what 2020 brought to you, it taught us all things we never could have pondered, for better or worse.

As of today, Life of Kinky Wife has been active for 10 months, with an incredible 35 000 views and 10 000 visitors. It’s had some highs and some lows, dragging me along with it. I found some amazing people (I think of them as friends) this year and learned a valuable lesson about where you hang your hat.

February

You’ll notice I skipped January. That’s because LOAKW wasn’t quite real yet. It was a work in progress and one I wasn’t sure I would ever commit to. Mister K gave me a great big push, buying me a hosting package and letting me know that I no longer had a choice. He is my biggest supporter and biggest fan. We should all be so lucky to be married and committed to someone who makes our hearts patter and our heads spin. LOAKW went live on February 27th, my first post being The Benefits of Cock Sucking (a good topic if you ask me).

March

March is when the magic started happening. I began posting on Blogging memes, Wicked Wednesday being my first one with the post Love of Curves. I was so nervous about taking my blog public, but Marie was so encouraging and made me feel welcome. She has also been the person to leave the most comments on LOAKW, but if anyone knows Marie, she leaves the most comments on many blogs. The amount of interaction she has with the blogging world is astounding and she is so thoughtful in her remarks. That post ended up being chosen as a highlighted top three and I was so green, I didn’t know what to do. Turns out a simple thank you is all that’s needed.

April

At the end of March, May More created an ad-hoc meme, called Books Matter. I took the bull by the horns for this meme and thoroughly enjoyed it. You can find my contributions here. I’m so glad I decided to join, as May has become the most influential mentor anyone could ask for. She’s helped me so many times and I truly wouldn’t know what to do without her guidance.

This was also the month of my birthday and as lockdowns started two and a half weeks before, it was the first birthday in years I had not celebrated outside the house. No need to fear though, Mister K had it well in hand, helping me create a celebratory photoshoot to go with our newly found staying-in tradition.

Spring is often the time where thoughts for new projects come to fruition and this April was no exception. MLSlavepuppet started Time Me Up Tuesday and I was thrilled to have a place to show off Mister K’s rope work. Rope is something that we enjoy quite a lot, so having a place to share it made it all the more fun. The number of views we have received for Naughty Knots is amazing, and something I never thought would be so well-liked. Thanks to MLSlavepuppet, we are given new prompts every two weeks and she has no shortage of ideas, even sending me some via direct message.

May

May is when I started contributing to Tell Me About, a D/s inspired meme. It’s hosted by the delightful Missy and HL and the topics they choose are always great for inspiration or to simply make you think. Joining the community at Tell Me About and then The SafeworD/s club has been an exceptional experience. I really appreciate having a place to chat with like-minded individuals and to find answers. Tell Me About allows many to share the way their dynamics work and personally, I think it’s a great way to show that no two dynamics are the same. Something greatly needed in the ever-changing world of BDSM.

June

June is always a weird month. With the weather turning warmer and people being outside more, less blog reading happens. This year it seemed like everyone was away. Lockdowns were finally lifted, and we all took the time to visit our friends, neighbours, and family. Mister K and I took some time away and went to the mountains, which gave us time for outdoor-inspired play. I also wrote some of my best fiction this month, maybe it was the change of pace.

July

July brought me fewer views than June. I’d like to blame it on the summer being in full swing, but it’s really because LOAKW crashed, being down for a whole week. I took the slower month to work on my photography, something I had newly found a love for. The long days and short nights meant plenty of outdoor fun and plenty more reasons to shed our clothes. This month I spent more time outside nude than ever before. I hope next year brings more of the same.

August

August was amazing! I did 3 rounds ups, was featured on 4 thoughts or Fiction by the amazing May More, and was interviewed by the lovely Posy Churchgate on Interview a Blogger. Whether it was the promotion from two influential bloggers or that LOAKW really started to take off, my views increased by over 1000. Mister K and I also took the opportunity to head to the woods, where we had a mountain-inspired photoshoot and some kinky play. We were not disappointed.

September

In September I was interviewed by the charming HL for the Tell Me About Podcast. I was so honoured to be included in this project and am thrilled that HL has taken it to a second season. The bloggers he has interviewed to date are all true inspirations in the blogging world and whether you take the time to listen for the fun or the chance at learning something new, you’ll find there’s something for everyone.

September was unbearably hot in my part of the world. We were experiencing a drought and the reservoirs were empty. Smoke from wildfires in Oregon was clogging the airways and yet, Mister K and I braved the smoke and did some rope play outside. There’s something singularly enjoyable about being tied under the open sky. It’s simply delightful.

October

October was a tough month. I have to admit I almost gave LOAKW up. For anyone wondering, October is the month that the blogging awards are started. I was thrilled to find my name on a list for Top New Blogs of 2020, then by default taking first place. Within a week, the blogging world became a playing field of choosing sides, and not only was my name removed from the list, but I was labeled a truly horrific name. I’m saddened that not one person who thought they could displace me actually tried to contact me, nor did the company sponsoring the awards. A shady dealing in a cowardly way, performed by bullies. So really, it wasn’t a loss.

The company involved still sent me a prize though, making my confusion even greater. I did see the reduction of some readers and also had my name removed from blogging lists that I had contributed to many times. After half a year of being isolated and locked down, it almost made me throw in the towel. Without some wonderful ladies who gave me great advice, LOAKW would be no more. I’m so glad I have them in my court. They know who they are 😊

It wasn’t a complete bust though. Deviant Succubus started an ad-hoc meme, Sexy Halloween. It was a treat having my bum painted and combining ghoulish ways with being sexy. Unfortunately, Halloween is only for a short time. I hope we can do it again next year.

November

After the lows of October, November really took a turn. I was still feeling down about the October kerfuffle but kept going at it. In November I wrote 5 things I learned from a Femdom and was thrilled to be asked by CollaredMichael if he could share it on his blog. That post has seen 1300 + views to date and increased my following tremendously. Just goes to show, it only takes one share to get your site off the ground.

I also decided to start my own meme in November and am happy to say it will launch on January 1/2021. It’s called MMM Monday’s and is an open themed meme where anyone can share what makes them say MMM, whether it’s a piece of erotica, an image, a favourite food, music, or something else. Be sure to check it out. I hope to see you there.

December

December was by far the most fun on my blog. I did an Advent Calendar, combining the Calendars from the SafeworD/s club and the Submissive Guide to make one sexy, festive project. It must have been well-liked because I saw another increase in traffic, even though Christmas is usually the slowest time of year. Maybe the lockdowns have an upside after all.

I want to take a moment to mention a few others who haven’t been included here. It’s not because you’re not on my mind I just couldn’t fit everything in. A big thank you to Purple Sole and Gem of Purple’s Gem for letting me use their image, taking the time to comment on my posts, and to Gem for hosting the Monochromerotic meme. It requires us to think outside the box, and I think that’s the best part.

Also, I need to mention Mike and Samantha from Marriage, Sex and More. They take the time to like so many of my tweets and comment on my blog. Their lifestyle is very different from mine, but they make it look like so much fun!

2020 was a wild ride and for most of us, it didn’t go as planned. It’s encouraging to see so many made the best of it and pushed through, even when they wanted to give in.

I hope that when you look back on 2020, you find more than just the downside, after all, there’s always a new year and a new day to become a new you.

Take care. We’ll see you next year!

Until then, these are my 9 top images of 2020.

  1. I admit to not quite understanding what happened in October. It sounds like you were mistreated but I don’t understand why. I’m glad you persevered though. You have a distinctive voice that I enjoy reading. Further, I really enjoy your pics!
Thank you so much for the shout out. It is really appreciated!
I am amazed at how much you’ve accomplished in the last 10 months. Congratulations!!

    1. I admit , I’m unsure what happened as well, but it’s really not important anymore. I’ve found where I feel best.
Thank YOU for the shout out! I’m amazed how many times that post has been read and it’s really all thanks to you!
I wish you all the best in 2021! many more images to come 🙂

  2. I can hardly believe your blog is only 10 months old, as it feels you have been here forever, and I totally see you as one of the best bloggers out there. Your posts are always filled with so much information, and your images are stunning. I am so sorry you had to experience those bad times in October, but good for you for continuing with your blog. Sadly there will always be haters out there, so just getting on with what you do on YOUR blog is the best way to go about it. Last, but most definitely not least, thank you so much for your beautiful words about me. Blogging is a passion of mine, and kindness and love is something I love to spread.

I wish you an absolutely wonderful 2021!
    ~ Marie xox

    1. Thanks Marie. I hope to be around forever. Lol.
I’m so happy to have met you and have really enjoyed getting to know you over the past 10 months.
Cheers to many more years as bloggers 🙂

  3. Oh Mrs K – you make me so proud! Your blog is only 10mths old but you have done more than most would do in 2 years. I very much appreciate your words about me – and as I will say again your blog is the best i have come across in 2020 – you are flying high and will continue to do so – I expect nothing less!
I so look forward to your 2021 – forks in the road are funny things, sometimes you take one and it may seem as if your made the wrong choice – but trusting your gut works well – I think you took the right road – and am very glad it was up our street!
    May xx

    1. I’m so glad I chose the direction I did too. And my words were very true, I would not have made it this far without you 🙂
I’m looking forward to new ventures in the New Year, for better or worse (but I think they’ll be mostly good !)

  4. What a lovely post and thank you so much for your kind words about me and our projects. It has been great watching your blog blossom and although it is disappointing to be treated as you have been, I hope that it will bring you something positive in a round about way. Sometimes seeing the truth in a situation is helpful and allows you to better make decisions which are good ones. Here’s to another great year for LOAKW. Onwards and upwards. Missy x

  5. What a year you’ve had KW! I think you’re first year has been a fabulous launch, because this has been a tough year for blogging when people have decided to step away from social media for reasons of good MH. Your stats sound incredible and your posts and pictures have been consistently fun and interesting. I loved your interview and it’s been great getting to know you through our love of books too.

Please don’t bumps in the road make you give up blogging, I’ll bet you have a lot more great ideas and content to share, and you will definitely see me linking up with your MMM Meme – it sounds a great opportunity to share.

I'd love to hear from you!
