Looking through a Lens

Looking through a Lens

Below is a poem I wrote about photography. My thoughts on the subject and a gallery of my favorite pictures follows. Enjoy!

Developing Depiction

Click says the shutter, as it captures the scene,

The mood and the vision, only the shutterbug sees.

Light and the dark, keep the balance in focus,

Inviting the senses, “say cheese” is the notice.

The angle it matters, the muse does not,

The object of focus, centered but off.

A stillness of person, a smile so bright,

Memories captured, minutes frozen in time.

Blurs of movement, limbs casting shadow,

Candid occasions, create humorous chatter.

Monochromatic, sepia-toned,

A lovers embrace, the erotic original.

The eye of the beholder, in black and white,

Spiritual exactness, pure and life-like.

Contemporary depiction, vertically far-flung,

Digital diversion, a room sheltered from sun.

Permanent beauty, caught in a frame,

Admirable projection, not glossy or plain.

Colour in, un-imaginable slow motion,

Innovative creator, philosophical notion.

Mrs K – Life of a Kinky Wife

I’m always in awe of photographers. You know the ones who can make any landscape look like a secret haven, or show the feeling in the room instead of just the people. I take a lot of photographs, but I have yet to learn the skills to become this proficient. I keep meaning to take a course at the local art centre, but you know what they say about good intentions. Maybe when we get back to normal (whatever that will look like), I’ll jump at the opportunity.

As a mother, I’m not very often the object of capture. Out of a thousand pictures on my camera, 10 will be of me. In most, I will be mid-sentence, chewing, or with a look of confusion on my face. This is the way I am seen by my children and husband. They don’t need the picture to be artistic, they’re capturing a moment, a lesson I was teaching, or celebrating a great meal, not a person. But sometimes I wish someone had taken my picture at the top of the mountain, or caught the wonder on my face upon a new discovery, or captured the peace I feel when I’m comfortable at the beach.

As a sex blogger, I have my picture taken quite a bit, mostly my body. I don’t mind these pictures so much but have found that the saying, “The camera adds ten pounds”, is indeed very true. Mister K and I take many photos, to get just the right one. And our artistic view is very different, so something that he thinks looks amazing, for me may not be so much. We’ve both had to become mindful of the background and the placement of items we don’t think about.

I never take selfies, I just don’t have whatever gene it is that makes some people inherently know how to look good for the camera.

I spend a lot of time walking each day and like to take pictures of the things I find and the beauty in the place I call home. Somedays it’s much easier to be inspired by everyday things. But nature is my favorite place to be and so, most of the pictures on my phone are of grass and trees, rocks and flowers. Those below are some of my views at home.

  1. These are some beautiful photographs and I love the poem you shared with us.
I also, like you, don’t appear in that many pictures in my vanilla life, but I’m certainly going all out in the kink world haha! I think it’s nice we get to

  2. Your poem is lovely and you should write more, as you should develop your photography and the images are wonderful. I am an inveterate photo taker, especially of the clouds or sky and they often inspire poems, or at least make me think of things that might become poems. Continue lovely lady! x

This made me laugh, because I don’t have that gene either!
I love the poem, and your images. And yes, you should go for a camera course. I did and it really helped just to understand the basic things on my camera 🙂

  4. I liked your poem and can relate to what you have written about having your picture taken. I enjoyed your slideshow of both the erotic photos and the scenery. missy x

  5. I enjoyed your poem and your photos. You seem to be doing very well to me. You captured some really dramatic skies and the star fish is heavenly. I also took a peek at your kinky photos which impressed me greatly. I particularly liked your excellent rope work.

  6. These images are fantastic. I scrolled through the gallery and very much related to the foggy image – so many of my days used to start like that when i was at liberty to work. And the hand of god is intriguing to say the least 😉
    May x

    1. Thanks May! It’s funny, the fog picture reminded me of my time in the UK. It usually very dry where I live, but the UK always (or close to) has that misty foggy feel 🙂
The Hand of God? was taken 2 days before lock down was announced here….

I'd love to hear from you!
