Warm Sunny Days

Warm Sunny Days

It is cold in my little part of Canada. The thermometer outside my door says it’s currently -19C (-2.2F) with a wind-chill of -30C (-22F). The weather man tells me it’s not supposed to improve for at least the next week, and it’s only going to get worse before it gets better.

As much as winter is a needed part of Canada’s climate, I sure do miss warm sunny days. The feeling of the sun’s rays on my bare flesh. Seeing the prairie grasses ripening into gold stalks as it sways in the wind. Hearing the call of birds as they flutter and hop from tree to tree. I miss all things warm, but mostly I miss impromptu moments like these.

These images were taken in late autumn of last year on a perfectly warm sunny day. Mister K’s command came straight off of a completely unrelated comment, creating a sense of excitement at the spur of the moment decision. The feeling of anticipation heightened by the threat of being caught by a passerby. Rarely have I said no to such an opportunity. The feeling is simply delightful.

We have a weird tradition in Canada and the U.S. where February 2nd is known as Ground Hog Day (also a movie starring Bill Murray). The history around this is long and tiring. To save you the details, I’ll just say that we release a rodent from a cage and if he (at least they always seem to have male names) is scared of his shadow and runs into his hole (or cage I guess…), there will be 6 more weeks of winter. If he stays around awhile and checks things out, spring will come early. Apparently this year, winter is going to be a bit longer. But surely, you shouldn’t trust a rodent???

Either way, spring always comes, and I must say I’m more than ready (but it’s still so early yet). I can’t wait to get back to warm sunny days, impromptu scenes and best of all, the sun on my naked flesh. It doesn’t get much better than that!

  1. I enjoyed this post a lot, glad you evoked memories of warmer times, I miss the glow of the sun on my skin too! (never been as brave as this outdoors!)

I am liking the hard ground in the UK from the low temperatures, but only because I was heartily sick of the mud from all the rain we’d had. It’s so cold that I actually dread taking the dog out! But nothing compared with Canadian winter I am sure.

  2. i have seen that film Ground Hog day sooo often – and me and my man were talking about what it all means only the other day lol
I miss the sun and being outside naked.
Lovely shots of you bottom Mrs K 😉

    1. Such a good movie, with a very good lesson 🙂
      Silly tradition though. Lol
The sun is shining brightly today, reflecting off the snow so much it makes my eyes water. But the thermometer is not on my side 🙁

  3. It seems we are in the same kind of weather at this moment, although it’s less cold over here than where you are. Our snow is starting tonight and temps of -10C will be reached this coming week, which is rare for us. That said, I am quite ready for spring too, even though I love the colder weather. Love your images, as always 🙂
