Purple Haze

Purple Haze

Jimi Hendrix died of a drug overdose years before I was born, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t leave an impression. His style of music was unique to only him, and to this day there are few who can match his proficiency with the guitar.

Purple haze is one of my favourite songs by Jimi. While many think it is about an LSD trip, it is really based on a dream Hendrix had and he himself called it a love song. I agree with the love song part more so than the trip, but think it’s more about how the act of “falling in love” can make you feel.

♫ Purple haze, all in my brain
Lately things they don’t seem the same
Actin’ funny, but I don’t know why
Excuse me while I kiss the sky

Purple haze, all around
Don’t know if I’m comin’ up or down
Am I happy or in misery?
What ever it is, that girl put a spell on me ♫

For me, these lyrics speak of the lust that is hard pressed to be contained when you meet someone you’re attracted to. If that first hook-up should happen, things always seem tinted behind rose coloured glasses. It’ s difficult to know how to act, or whether you’re coming or going. All your thoughts are infiltrated by the thought of that person and you feel happy, but also somewhat miserable as they consume your mind. You do very much feel like you’re under a spell.

I’m quite fortunate to still have this sort of passion with Mister K after all these years. That desire to spend time together is vibrant in our relationship and the thought of him still so often fills my mind. As the Dominant he is, I do often wonder whether I’m coming up or going down, as Hendrix so eloquently put it.

♫ Purple haze all in my eyes
Don’t know if it’s day or night
You got me blowin’, blowin’ my mind
Is it tomorrow, or just the end of time? ♫

And as the years go on, I still find that Mister K can blow my mind. I look forward to each tomorrow and hope it stays that way until the end of time. In the time in between, we’ll still have late nights of modeling lingerie, mornings of sweet kisses and whispered sweet nothings, and afternoons of rope and bondage.

  1. That’s a cracking image, made extra exciting by the purple edit you’ve given it. I love how you’ve explained the lyrics, especially as I’d never given them much thought – I now find myself agreeing with your interpretation. How blissful that you and your man still feel that ‘young love’ sensation.

  2. WOW, fabulous image. Love the purple in it. And as for the lyrics, and how you feel to be with Mister K, is definitely how I feel with Master T too. I love being with him, we love spending time together, and yes, he can still blow my mind 🙂
    Beautiful post!

  3. That really is a stunning image. It’s really great that you and Mister K have that sort of relationship. I know so many couples who seem more like roommates than lovers after the years go by.

I'd love to hear from you!
