Hog Tied

Hog Tie’d is a Naughty Betty’s product review for the 5 Piece Hog Tie and Cuff set from sportsheets and is a sponsored post. As such, if you make a purchase, I may receive a small compensation.

I’m really excited to share another Naughty Betty’s review with you; the 5 piece Hog Tie & Cuff set from Sportsheets.

Sportsheets is a reputable company, but not one I had purchased from before. Now I’m questioning myself why I waited so long. These cuffs are so well made, I was shocked to learn the price was so low (less than $50 for 4 cuffs and a connector). The design is simple and quite effective, but they’re also versatile enough for many other uses.

Since the devil’s in the details, let’s take a look.

Shipping/Packaging

Like always with Betty’s, this shipped fast and came in non-descript brown packaging. Inside was the smaller, manufacturer’s box with the cuffs and x-connector.

The directions and uses are printed directly on the box limiting packaging.

There are even instructions on how to join two cuffs together to create a collar or thigh cuffs. So versatile!

Materials

The 5 Piece Hog Tie & Cuff Set packaging boasts a machine washable and nickel-free product but doesn’t state what the material is. An online search informed me they are made of Polypropylene webbing, nylon webbing, nickel-free hardware, Velboa fabric, Hook & Loop Velcro.

Right away, I noticed that the lining (velboa fabric) was super soft, and because of the wrap around design, there is no way for the velcro to come into contact with your skin.

The D-rings on the X-connector and the clasps on each cuff are all heavy duty, but not bulky, or heavy and the x-connector weighs more than a cuff, when weighed-out free-hand.

And because a good time often involves more than one position, there are further directions on the box about other products this cuff set is compatible with, giving examples of rope, bondage tape, or a silky sash. I can’t wait to try them all!

Quality

Instantly, I could see the superior quality these are. The stitch lines are even and level and the Velcro is placed perfectly so it doesn’t chafe sensitive skin. There are two layers of webbing, making these super strong and durable, but also limiting the amount of fray created from pulling, or repetitive rubbing.

Most impressive is the lack of sharp edges, which happens with this material often due to the heating process that is needed to prevent fraying. Even the x-connector and D-ring slots were well constructed with no loose pieces. All the edges were folded neatly and each piece of hardware placed correctly.

Mister K stated that he was impressed with the manufacturing, knowing from first-hand experience that sewing such pieces can be a challenge. Making something designed to be industrial, elegant, is quite the feat. He also said it would be impossible to have a set like this custom made for such an affordable price.

Design

Because these are designed to wrap around the wrists and ankles, they’ll fit all body types, and being made of webbing, they’re stronger and more wear resistant than other leather, or PVC, styles and brands.

The fact that they are designed to wrap around as one piece, instead of using a buckle closure makes for a more secure bondage experience and limits tearing. Also, a feisty sub is less likely to injure a wrist or ankle while the fabric is wrapped instead of buckled.

I really love the S stamp on the connector piece, and the tiny Sportsheets labels sewn into each cuff. A very clever marketing design!
The clasps are designed to operate no matter how much the hog tied partner is moving, although getting the hooks off of the D rings will be challenge unless the bottom cooperates.

Sizing the Cuffs

I have a fascination (or perhaps a fetish) with cuffs. I enjoy wearing them and find they make me enter a submissive headspace quite easily, so you can imagine that I wanted to wear these, just to try them out.

The interior of these cuffs are a soft, fuzzy fabric that feels like rabbit fur (but vegan and animal friendly). And although they appear quite industrial, they also have an elegant feel to them.

Because of the materials used, these fit so well and were super comfortable. There was no gapping between wrist or ankles and the cuff materials, and the velboa fabric whisked away any moisture. Even in the height of a Southern Canadian Summer, my skin remained dry and chafe free.

The hardware (clasps) didn’t get in the way, meaning they don’t hang down, or clatter against things, like my leather cuffs do, and because the fabric is flexible and machine washable, household tasks and the like were still quite doable.

I found them to feel and look beautiful (worn solo or not), and their weight was perfect, not too heavy, so I forgot about them as I went on with my day. But they weren’t so light so I forgot I was wearing a sign of submission either.

Using the Hog Tie X-Connector

Placing the x-connector in the front, rather than in the rear made it so a perfect spanking position was obtained with a simple movement. While it held my wrists and ankles close together, I was comfortable enough to hold a spanking position for long enough (to get a red bum anyway). Mister K mentioned he appreciated my lack of being able to reposition myself, which can be an annoying side effect of spanking a squirmer.

Getting Hog Tied

As someone who experiences no small amount of lower back pain, I will admit, I was reluctant to try this position (see below for tips for the Hog Tie with lower back pain), but that’s part of the process.

I was wondering how well the Velcro would hold up to some squirming (of which I am notorious for, have I mentioned that?) and found that they did way better than my cuffs made of leather with locking buckles. Even riveted, the leather ripped from my overexertion, but this cuff set held strong, no matter what way I pulled.

Designed with squirmers in mind! (notice the pillow under my hips to keep my spine aligned)

Also, they didn’t slip or slide on my arms/legs, and all the pulling didn’t chaffe my wrists like cuffs I’ve used before.

But being velcro, they are quick release, so if you were to ever find yourself in a bind (haha, I’ll show myself out), they are as simple to remove as a single strap.

I’d like to note that I didn’t have any indentations on wrists or ankles after wearing these tightly for about 2 hours (with a good struggle in there somewhere). My leather cuffs often leave a line where the two sides connect and wrap, but with this set, there was no areas of discomfort. An added bonus.

Tips for being Hog Tie’d when you suffer from lower back pain:

  • Stay active. Moving daily will aid you more in staying flexible than resting. Implement a daily routine of stretching and your back will thank you.
  • Place a pillow (or triangle wedge) under your hips to support the natural bend of your spine.
  • Practice poses like the hog tie for only a short duration and work your way up to extended periods. Training for a marathon doesn’t happen is a day.
  • If you really want to be hog tied, take an OTC pain reliever 20 minutes beforehand. Sometimes prevention is the best medicine. Using an arnica based cram afterward will help increase blood-flow to the area and lessen discomfort too.
  • Remember to have a safe word and to use it as needed. Working through a painful situation may feel like success at the time, but your body will disagree with you. Remember to stay sane, SAFE, and consensual!
  • IF YOU’RE ALREADY IN PAIN, PLAN THIS POSITION ANOTHER DAY!

Be safe and have fun!

  1. The product itself is beautiful and apparently of high quality. But the positions that it forms, in my opinion, are not entirely practical.

I'd love to hear from you!
